Loosen the nut off from the basket strainer and the pipeline which is connected. Use a hacksaw or a metal cutter if the nut is not coming off.


Remove the strainer and clean the area where the plumber’s putty is going to seal the basket.


Separate all the parts and put them aside. Start with the top of the basket by applying the plumber’s putty.


Once the putty is applied set the basket at the well-center of the sink and press it high to seal any gap.


Now, start putting on the paper and rubber gasket and the bottom part of the basket from below the sink. Tighten the nut well.

Finally, clean out the excessive putty from the top surface. and connect the pipeline. The installation is completed!

Metal, or plastic strainer?

Both metal and plastic strainer comes with their advantages and disadvantages. Metal strainers are the sturdy ones. These will go fine in the long run. The stainless steel is free from rust and oxidation damages. But they may lose their shiny look in a few days.

Again, plastic has its advantages too. They are lightweight and free from rust; also easy for cleaning and installing. But what matters is that plastic strainers are not that strong and can break down with pressure.

Eventually, the stainless steel strainers are better in terms of durability and longevity.

Drain size

Drain is the key factor that influences the strainer’s size. The size of the drain will determine the strainer size. If the drain is larger, the sink strainers will seek will be larger. A 3 and a ½” size strainer is considered the standard size.

Again, the drain size of the sink will determine the strainer's width. Thus, it is important to consider the drain connecting area along with the sing hole for a well-fitted strainer that will not have leakage.
